Terms of use
Short version: this site tells you about SUM and lets you put your hand up for rush. Use it in good faith, don't take our stuff, and understand that applying is not the same as being offered a place.

What this site is
sigmaupsilonmu.com is the public site of Sigma Upsilon Mu (SUM), a registered student organization at California State University, Fullerton. It exists to explain who we are, list our public events, and let people interested in joining tell us so.
By using the site you are agreeing to what is on this page. If you don't agree with it, don't use the site. We are the chapter's student executive board, and you can reach us at csufsigmaupsilonmu@gmail.com.
Using the site
Read it, share it, send it to a friend who should rush. What we ask you not to do:
- Submit someone else's name, email, or phone number, or sign anyone up as a joke.
- Put false information into the forms.
- Scrape, harvest, or bulk-download anything from the site, including contact details.
- Try to get into the members area, or into any account or system behind it, without being invited.
- Attack, overload, or interfere with the site or the people using it.
- Use the site to send spam, to advertise, or to recruit for something else.
If you do any of that we may block you and, where it involves a CSUF student, refer it to the university. Nothing here is meant to stop you criticising us; say what you think.
Our content and our marks
The words, photographs, layout, and code on this site belong to Sigma Upsilon Mu, except where something is credited to someone else. The name Sigma Upsilon Mu, the letters, the phoenix crest, and the motto Facta Non Verba are ours and identify the organization.
You can quote or link to this site normally, the way you would any other page. What you cannot do is copy the site wholesale, or put our name or crest on merchandise, an event, a flyer, or another organization's material without written permission from the board. Chapter merchandise comes from our store, and nowhere else.
Applying is not an offer of membership
Taking the quiz, sending the direct form, or RSVPing to an event tells us you are interested. That is all it does. It is not an application that we owe you an answer to, not an offer from us, not an acceptance by you, and not a guarantee that you will be invited to anything.
Rush is selective and the number of places is limited. Deciding who is invited to continue, who receives a bid, and who is initiated is up to the chapter, under our own rules and the university's. We are not obliged to explain a decision.
Nothing on this site is a contract for membership, and nothing on it promises a particular outcome, career result, internship, or job.
Membership itself is governed elsewhere
If you are invited to pledge, what follows is governed by the Pledge Contract and the Member Handbook, along with CSUF policy and the rules of any council we belong to. Those documents are given to you at the point they apply, and they are what control the relationship between you and the chapter.
This page governs your use of a website. Where the two ever appear to disagree about membership, the Pledge Contract and the Member Handbook win, and this page has nothing to say about it.
No warranty
We keep this site accurate and current as best we can, but it is put together by student officers between classes. Event dates move, details change, and things go out of date. The site is provided as it is, with no promise that it will be available, uninterrupted, error free, or right about any particular detail.
Before you count on a date or a location, check the calendar or ask us. To the extent the law allows, SUM and its officers are not liable for loss that comes from relying on this site or from being unable to use it.
Links to other sites
We link to our Instagram, our LinkedIn, our merch store, and occasionally to other organizations. Those sites are not ours and we don't control them. Linking to something is not an endorsement of everything on it, and once you follow a link you are under that site's terms and its privacy policy rather than ours.
Your information
What we collect through the forms, where it goes, how texting works, and how to have it deleted are all set out in the privacy policy. It is part of these terms.
SUM and the university
Sigma Upsilon Mu is a registered student organization at California State University, Fullerton. This site is run by the organization, not by the university. Its content is ours and does not represent the views of CSUF, and the university is not a party to these terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of laws rules. If something cannot be sorted out by talking to us first, it belongs in the state or federal courts serving Orange County, California.
If any part of this page turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
Changes
We update this page when the site changes, and we move the date at the top when we do. Carrying on using the site after that means you are fine with the new version.
